Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist
Scott Schuman is a photographer and founder of the fashion blog The Sartorialist. His initial reasoning behind its creation was to connect fashion to daily life and to showcase how they relate to one another.
He started in the sales industry, yet left the “behind-the-scenes” and started taking pictures of people dressed in a way he found interesting and worth exposing on his blog. He wished to embody and think like a fashion designer, and consequently capture sources of stylistic inspiration. His blog did just that, and some even refer to him as the pioneer blogger for fashion photography.
Since its debut, The Sartorialist has been so successful that it has been featured in magazines such as GQ, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, and Interview. Not only that, he has also shot campaigns for Nespresso, DKNY, Crate & Barrel, Burberry, and Saks Fifth Avenue, to name a few.
If you wish to see his art in person, go to either the Victoria & Albert Museum or the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, as they permanently display his work. You’re more of a book person? Check out “The Sartorialist,” an anthology of his favorite photos, published all over the world. In the meantime, simply visit his blog and you’ll be sure to want more!
