Summer is finally here, which means swimsuits, sunscreen, and sundresses. It also means summer makeup! Many women don’t even think about makeup as a seasonal item, but it definitely is. Here are some great beauty hacks we’ve found to help you don your makeup well into this summer season!
1. It’s all about the base!
With summer weather becoming sweltering hot, there are lots of issues with makeup melting off. An instant remedy for this is using a primer. Our suggestion is HOURGLASS Veil Mineral Primer for your face. This primer works miracles, it not only perfects the skin, but it also protects it with mineral-derived physical sunscreens. It is even oil-free, it is a god-send for the summer months! (Bonus: to keep eyeshadow from moving around try Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion!)
2. Ditch your foundation for a BB cream!
BB cream is one of the hottest innovations in makeup, but many don’t actually know what it is. BB cream stands for “beauty balm” cream. BB cream is inbetween the coverage spectrum of foundation and tinted moisturizer. The best thing about BB cream is the fact it has great coverage, yet feels clean and light on one’s skin. One of the highest rated BB creams is actually Smashbox Camera Ready BB cream. It’s a “five-in-one complexion miracle-worker that moisturizes, primes, perfects, protects and controls oil,” including fragrance-free with 35 SPF!
Due to summer heat and perspiration, a powder blush tends to not last all day. Instead of sticking to your powder blush, try a liquid or gel blush. Liquid or gel blush is more pigmented, and actually stays on your skin, instead of staying ontop of your foundation. A great summer blush is Tarte cheek stain. It will stay in place all day, and it can even double as a lipstain!
4. Go with liquid or gel eyeliner!
Liquid eyeliner can be a bit of challenge, but during the summer the right formula can make life a lot easier. Using a liquid or gel eyeliner makes your chances of experiencing smudging slim to none. We really love Bobbi Brown’s long-wear gel eyeliner. This gel eyeliner is easy to apply, stays put all day, and an added bonus, it comes in a range of beautiful colors.
The last, yet most important thing to do in this summer heat is to set your makeup! This will prevent your makeup from moving around, and will also prevent shine in your oily areas. MAKE UP FOR EVER has the best setting spray, and setting powder. Using the setting spray at the end of your makeup routine, and then throwing the pressed powder in your purse for touch ups throughout the day is the best way to go.
Adjusting your makeup routine for the hottest season of the year may seem like a difficult task. We hope these 5 beauty hacks are able to make fine-tuning your summer makeup routine a little easier!
