Have you begun planning for 2017, because it’s quickly approaching and you know what they say, “new year, new beginnings.” Or in the case of small businesses, “new goals.” Right now is the perfect time to begin thinking about what it is you and your business want to accomplish in the upcoming year. Unlike New Year resolutions, which some people might find cliché—goal planning for the New Year is so important when you have a small business, and can be a lot of fun!
When working on something like the growth of your business—that is important to you and you’re emotionally invested in, you’d be surprised at how motivated you are to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. It’s a great way to maintain focus in what can easily become a hectic period and we’ve got a few tips to make sure you get the best of your 2017 planning.
If your goal is to increase sales for the New Year, don’t just leave it at that. Study your growth from the past years and decide on a reasonable number. If you set a goal of increasing sales by 20%, for example, it becomes much more attainable and effective in motivating you to achieve that goal, as opposed to a goal you can’t measure up to.
Commit. Commit. Commit.
In order to become successful at anything, you must commit. How else would you have started your business if you didn’t commit 100% from the beginning? The same thing applies to your goals for the New Year. If you feel you have too much on your plate and might lose focus, choose a goal you feel strongly about and then announce it to people around you who will hold you accountable.
Another thing to keep in mind when planning your goals for 2017 is to put a number on it. Deciding that you are going to come up with a new marketing plan or launch a new product within the next 3 months is a good way to keep your goals in check. You can then turn a long-term goal into smaller monthly and daily goals—and before you know it you’ve hit your mark!
Setting goals for the New Year doesn’t have to be stressful; they can easily become your most motivating feature in your business plan. There’s nothing better than picturing the growth of your business or imagining the success of a new venture, and we hope you keep that in mind when planning your new goals.
